I have a cold. It was bound to happen....I skated through this winter without one so I'm past due. Anyway. When I have a cold the only thing that feels good to drink is pop (or soda if thats what you call it in your neighborhood). This is frustrating to me as I've really tried to limit my pop intake to a can a day. I've gone way past that today. This is day 3 of this particular cold and I have totally given in. All pop has been diet and caffeine free if that helps at all. I can't tell you exactly how many I've drank because I've made sure all cans hit the recycling promptly. And I don't want to think about it. I'm good with denial when it suits me ;).
Anyone else have this problem? The very idea of drinking something warm, like tea makes me shiver. I have drank water...it really doesn't do it for throat crud (sorry if TMI). Sigh. I feel like I've fallen off the wagon.

Oh What a Week!!
What a week!!
The biggest event was the my 7 year old made her First Communion. She had from her accounts a great day which is what I was aiming for so mission accomplished! She had been looking forward to wearing a long poofy dress and having her hair up with a long veil for years. I got it all together and she was indeed a princess. I know God smiled on her that day. Even if her mind was a bit more on what she looked like on the outside as opposed to the in. All the parts are there for sure. It was a busy time, lots of work but worth it all in the end.

Vehicle shopping is now officialy DONE. Slam the gavel and give a shout. We can now occupy our thoughts elsewhere. As it turned out...a business associate of my hubby's was in process of selling their Suburban as they were downsizing to a van. Gas issues. The same issue we have....however...what is a family of 6 with a camper that needs pulling to buy? Anyway....it met DH requirements and mine well enough. The black new to us "truck" is sitting in my driveway and will probably become my primairy vehicle soon. Anyone in the market for a Oldsmobile Silouette 1999 model? Leather seats.....white ext. tan int....great radio/cd great condition? Drop me a line! We just don't need to be paying taxes and insurance on 3 vehicles and after much debate that is the one we decided will go.
Anyone have blogging block? I swear I think of all these great things to blog about (I promise they are simpy amazing ideas...seriously....you would just be amazed ;) ) but I get here and....nothin. Just air rolling around there in the thoughts. Boy that says a lot doesn't it?

Happy Earth Day!
Are gloabal warming concerns valid? Is Mr Gore right? Sure doesn't feel like we are warming here where I live. It has been one of the coldest winters and spring is taking its own sweet time making an appearance. Some will argue that its just the weather cycles. Its what happens. Does it matter? It really doesn't IMO. We should be taking better care of our earth just because we should be. Its the right thing to do. Its our home.
In the past year I've tried to be more aware of that. I've changed most of the lightbulbs in the house. We have quite a few recessed lights making this a rather expensive venture but as they go...I buy flourecent ones to replace them. So happy they finally came out with bulbs for the dimmer situations. I've bought the reusable grocery bags....and I admit to forgetting them. I make sure to reuse those plastics and recently my grocery store started collecting them for recyling! :) I recycle our plastic, paper, glass, aluminum and cardboard. Its the right thing to do. We installed a reverse osmosis system in our house eliminating the bottles from our bottle water habit. I'm proud of the changes our family has made this year.
I am however guilty of keeping those disposable diapers. I applaud those of you willing to use cloth. You rock. You do. I totally admit I am way to lazy. More applause for those of you with compost. Can't get up the umph for that either.
Goals for this year: move towards more environmentally friendly cleaners, get an environmentally friendly washing machine/dryer and find ways to recycle clutter in our home. Seems a tall order. But I think we can do it. I am a HUGE fan of pledge furniture polish. Anyone have a environmentally safe/friendly furniture polish to recomend?

Vehicle shopping
Sigh.
Should be relatively simple in theory right? Decide what kind of vehicle most suits your needs and then research, shop, purchase. No problem.
Sigh.
Not so around here. Shopping for a vehicle takes the patience of a saint (which for the record, is definately a goal of mine, but I am not there yet). We need something large enough to pull our camper and hold all 6 of us comfortably. My DH come to find out has been carrying a small torch in regards to trucks for some years....and I was about to cave on the purchase of one...but in hindsight am glad I didn't. Seriously! We have 4 growing children just how long could that last and still have some harmony left in the family?
The truck he was eyeing was a wild story of someone selling a truck from overseas. He was about to pull the trigger on that one when his Mother called wondering if we would still be interested in buying her Suburban that not two weeks ago she said she was not selling. Sigh. OK....lets do that. Until this week. Finacial circumstances have changed....maybe not going to sell.
We are going camping (reservations have been made and I AM going!). I have for the most part tried to stay out of this vehicle purchase. Letting DH move at his pace. Letting him talk with his parents. Trying to be patient. Trying to let him take control. (have I mentioned I have found all the vehicles we have purchased together but one?) DH has some strick requirements in regard to price and mileage. (He is an engineer and we have spreadsheets to calculate the approx. cost per mile to drive any vehicle we might consider buying) And so I have been "shopping" on line this afternoon. I have so good prospects to propose. It is time to get off this rollercoaster and DRIVE HOME!!!

Weekend
We had a nice weekend. No business talk at all. It was good for all of us. We had a house full of company on Saturday and lots to do at church until about 1pm on Sunday...otherwise we stayed home together. The biggest part of that is DH recognized it as good.
The house full of company was curtosey of my sister bringing her boyfriend home to meet everyone. That went well! He seems like a great guy. I also got to spend a decent amount of time snuggling my new 3 week old nephew. Nothing wrong with that! He is a doll.

Friday thoughts
Just cause I feel like jotting a few things down and it happens to be Friday
For the record...starting a business is hard. And not for reason you might think. Its emotionally hard. And its lonely. My DH is struggling with the lonliness of being "the boss" I struggle with the loneliness of being the boss's wife. Something he can't wrap his brain around at all. But there is a "club" employees are in. I'm not in that club.
Another surprise struggle is all the extra unsolicited "advice" we're given. and figuring out how to deal with that. My natural inclination is to chuck it all. My DH on the other hand takes every bit to heart and carries it around like some sort of prize. Its actually more like a giant stick he keeps beating himself over the head with. I hate business advice. I want to build this business OUR way. With OUR philosophies, otherwise what is the point?
All of this and much more just makes me tired. All the time tired. And really lonely sometimes. These are things I didn't expect. I expected the long hours. The money concerns. The policy work. The work. I just didn't expect the emotional stuff.
Then there is my job. Raising these 4 kiddos...these special jewels. I thank God for them in ways I never expected too. That is a blessing.
Special moment today...that 2 hours later is still making me teary eyed....as I'm giving my 3 year a hug before naps...."Mom, you make my heart happy!"
