Exhausted

I am usually a night owl and going to bed on time for me is about 11, 11:30.

Yesterday I decided to take my babe in and get her pictures taken. This was a two trip and nearly 4 hour total ordeal. And I am not exagerating on the time.

I was in bed at 10 last night...and barely made it that late.

They did get some good shots of her. Her face was no longer in the best of shape...crying will do that!

But as they say.....it is done.

Funerals

2 of the children who were killed last week had there funerals yesterday. One of the brothers was a twin. His twin sisters birthday is this coming Monday. Can you imagine? Today is the funeral of the little girl who was killed. She was a Chinese orphan. What a tramatic end to the dream. Thursday the last boy will be memoralized. Just a sad week in that small town.

The woman who rammed the bus has been identified. She had told the police a false name and said she was from Mexico. Very believable around here. However this is not the case. She has a completely different name and is here from Guatemala. I've been thinking about her a lot. The newspaper hasn't shared much in regard to her understandably. She is the enemy here. Her actions took the lives of 4 and changed the lives of many. And while this is true, eventually you have to get past that and think as she set out that day how likely was it that this was her intent? She came to court in a wheel chair, so she is not without physical pain in addition to the emotional pain I would like to imagine she probably has. I just can't think of her as completely coldhearted. So I wonder, was she treated kindly at the hospital? How are people she is in contact with treating her? What was her previous life like that she broke the many laws that she did in order to be here with this tragedy as the result? I just wonder about her.

Two things I love today

1. I found a new chi tea mix at Super Walmart (don't hate me for shopping there...honestly we don't have many options here) called Oregon Chai Vanilla Latte Mix. YUM! Perfect treat on yet another cold day

2. And this picture of my G. Its sassy enough to just be her!

Libraries

I love our library. Love it. I love that I can reserve books online and they call me to come pick them up. Then I can renew them on line when I'm just not quite done with them. I decided that if I had to contained to one building for a long period of time, the library is where I'd want to be confined too.

Books are favorite things around here. They are everywhere....and then no where....and the library is calling to tell us that are time with them is UP! :(

Good news though, we found all there were missing. My card is officially out of hock. AND all 10 books I reserved last week are in. EEEK!!! I reserved a bunch thinking they would trickle in over time. I see late nights in my future...with a good book. Nothing wrong with that!

Happier News!!!

Anyone reading "confessions of a CF Husband" I love that blog and its testament to what God can do in our lives when we let him.

Anyway...his wife is officially on the transplant list! A fantastically great achievement for this incredible woman. Back on less then 2 months after giving birth to baby Gwenyth. Checking that blog everyday inspires my heart.

Check it out!!

Illegal

The woman who hit the bus is an illegal immigrant. She did not have a liscence. She was on her way to work. To work at a place who currently is not denying or admitting anything about her professed employment. She has been convicted in our country just 2 years ago for driving with out a liscense.

My brain is swirling with what ifs.

Meanwhile 3 families are planning funerals for their children.

In Memory

This week our state suffered a tradgedy. A van plowed into the side of a school bus hard enough that it pushed into a truck and tipped over. 4 students were killed. Many injured. 2 of the lost children were brothers who happen to be cousins of someone who works for my husband. The person driving the van ran a stop sign.

It is such a sad thing I'm at a loss for words.

Closing a semi-open adoption

My second daughter is/was a mostly open adoption with her other Mother. We did not have regular visits due to distance but had exchanged addresses and last names. I sent a several page letter and a couple dozen pictures every six months as we agreed too. We also welcomed contact from her when ever she had a mind to desire to contact us. Apparently she is done doing that. 6 months ago the letter packet I sent came back marked "unable to forward" Sigh. I've done extensive internet looking....unsucessfully.

I had hoped that perhaps it was just on oversight and she would contact us sometime here. She hasn't. She actually hasn't initiated any contact now for many years (my DD is 7) . Which I was OK with. Everyone has their own path to follow and ways of having a relationship. Being gone completely though.....I've got a problem with that.

I hurt because this will one day potentially hurt my DD a great deal. I can't help think that she might think/feel that she left her again. I don't have one of those letters to show her where why she was placed for adoption is explained. I really have very little from her other branch of the family. (nothing at all from bio father)

Mostly I am intensely frustrated by her actions. We've always tried to step back and allow our kiddos other parents lead post adoption relationships. Acknowledging their place is one of great sacrifice and their journey through life including adoption will go through a series of ups and downs more then likely. More so then us probably. But now I am seriously second guessing that. (cause I just sounded so confident there didn't I?) Becuase this is just not fair. Not fair to my DD. She has lost enough things in her life.

And I'm confused. In my DD adoption it is her other Mother is responsible for me sticking my neck out a lot further into open adoption then I might have at the time. I definately was a product of our society just not understanding what an open adoption can bring to a family when all the particiapants are in a mostly emotionally stable place (trying to be tactful here by saying I realize not all people can for the good the child participate in one). It was she who wanted visitation which in the middle of moving (she knew we were planning the move before placement....all our cards were on the table so to speak) and we did numerous times. We have traveled to visit one time since moving as well. There was not a huge click for us. But I wasn't looking for a new friend and neither was she I don't believe. We were doing this for H. And now it would seem that the we is not so much a we anymore. And I don't know why. And I don't know how to explain this to H either as someday I will have to.

Ugh.

For the record. Mine anyway. Closing an adoption with out communicating and agreeing or at least agreeing to disagree is just plain and simply wrong.

You Know you're an adoptive parent if.....

I borrowed this from my friend Stephanie....who borrowed it from her friend Lori...

YOU KNOW YOU'RE AN ADOPTIVE PARENT IF ...
1. The fact that there are 143 million children without a parent to kiss them goodnight has made you lose sleep.
2. You realize DNA has nothing to do with love & family.
3. You can't watch Adoption Stories on TLC without sobbing.
4. The fact that, if 7% of Christians adopted 1 child there would be no orphans in the world, is convicting to you.
5. You spend free time surfing blogs about families who've experienced the blessing of adoption.
6. It drives you crazy when people ask you about adopted child's "real" parents.
7. You've been "pregnant" with your adoptive child longer than it takes an elephant to give birth.(2 years!)
8. You'd no idea how you'd afford to adopt, but stepped out in faith anyway, knowing He'd provide. (& He does!)
9. You've taken an airplane half-way around the world with a child you just met.
10. You believe God's heart's for adoption.
11. You realize that welcoming a child into your heart & family is one of the most important legacies you could ever leave on this earth.
12. You know what the word "Dossier" means & you can actually pronounce it correctly!
13. You've welcomed a social worker into the most private parts of your life.
14. You shudder when people say your child's so lucky that you adopted them, knowing full well you're the blessed one to have him or her in your life.

Happy Valentines Day

Ta-da! Its wear red day and spread that love around.

I think this day is hard for some...the commercialism is a bit over the top anymore. Isn't it always? You know they'll have fourth of July out next week now. LOL. But a burst of it to emphasis the importance of celebrating love even in the middle of a very cold winter is a good thing. A jolt is needed sometimes.

So...make sure you spread that love around! Don't forget. Make it simple.

VOTE!

If its primairy day in your state go vote.

Vote because:

1. If you want to complain about anything in the next 4 years...you dang well have better particpated in the process or you should keep your mouth shut

2. Of all the people who died to give you this right....this is a big deal...not just a thing to say....really think about the sacrifice others have made for you before you say it doesn't matter

3. Because there is a lot pending here. People running are very much one side or the other on many issues. We've got a woman, a black man and a rather senior person in front running positions. Just a lot going on if you pay attention at all.....and then there are the issues at hand I sure hope people get around to looking at! Are other countries going to take aim at us more intentionally if a woman is in charge? Is a very liberaly minded black man going to make "choices" for change for your family? Who do YOU want to be in charge. Which direction do you want our country to go?

4. Just do it.
